ETIAS is valid for up to 3 years
Your approved ETIAS is valid for up to 3 years. It expires sooner if you renew your passport. You can travel to Europe from the U.S. as many times as you need whilst your ETIAS remains valid.
ETIAS is for short stay in Europe
Stay in Croatia, or elsewhere in the Schengen Area, for up to 90 days per 180-day period. Your stay starts the day you enter the Schengen Area and ends the day you leave.
ETIAS covers the entire Schengen Area
With ETIAS, you can visit Croatia and any of the other ETIAS countries. This includes neighboring countries Slovenia and Hungary, as well as Italy.
ETIAS is verified when you cross the external Schengen border, you can then visit any of the countries in the travel region.
ETIAS is for tourism, business, and study
You can visit Croatia on vacation, for business meetings and conferences, or to take part in short educational courses. You cannot work in Croatia with ETIAS, to work you need a visa.
ETIAS Requirements for U.S. Citizens to Visit Croatia
It’s quick and easy to apply for the Croatia ETIAS. To meet the ETIAS requirements, you need:
- U.S. passport valid for at least 3 months after you’ll leave the Schenen Area
- Debit or credit card to pay the ETIAS Croatia processing fee
You also need an email address—you’ll be notified by email as soon as your travel authorization is granted.

Automatic processing is fast, most Americans receive ETIAS approval within a few days. If manual processing is required, it may take longer to reach a decision. You should apply for ETIAS as soon as possible before traveling to Croatia.
Documents required to travel to Croatia from the USA
Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023.
To travel to Croatia, citizens of the U.S. need:
- Machine-readable U.S. passport
- ETIAS for Croatia (from 2026) or a visa
As a U.S. passport holder, you only need a visa if you do not meet the conditions for visa-free entry. Visa holders should carry a printed copy of the permit.
